June blocks are breakin' the law

OK, maybe not, but I don't know all the in and outs of quilt legality. It won't be totally square.

Friday, I mailed the fabric packages to all you beauties. Included are the fabrics in the photo and a little instruction sheet. In short, I would like the blocks to be 6.5" x 12" (which is different then what's on the sheet, but I think 6.5" is best) and for them to be wonky horizontal lines similar to Denise Schmidt's Hop, Skip and Jump pattern. Examples here, here, and here.

This will be our grab and go quilt. We plan to take it to the beach, kayaking, fishing, on picnics, bike rides and Volkswagen shows.
The tulips, yellow and white are thrifted sheets. The purple, green and orange were original part of a white thrifted duvet cover, but I dyed them. In case you wondered, when Rid's Pearl Gray is mixed with Dark Brown you get this eggplant/amethyst purple not taupe-y gray. I really liked the color and thought it still worked with the other fabrics, so I added it.
I am concerned that there isn't enough fabric. I sent out even amounts of what I had, but if you don't have enough just make it as close to 12" long as you can. If you want to add in other fabrics from your stash I am good with that.
This is the sketch of how I think the final quilt will look:

Please let me know if you have any questions. I can't wait to see all the blocks!

Ooo! I can't wait to get started! I love those oranges. I'm not sure what it is, but I've seriously been INTO orange lately. :)

quick question: I'm having trouble understanding "horizontally", maybe I'm slow... should the strips be 6.5" or 12" long?

Kris: The strips should be 6.5" left to right. The block should be as close to 12" top to bottom as possible. I am surprised you got them already. Double yea!

Robin: I was pretty happy with the orange. It got a little marbeled and next time I would add a little more water. I do love how bright it is.

I got mine today too! I LOVE thrifted sheets. :)

Just so we're clear, if the 6.5" is left to right, then you want the stripes going width wise not length wise?

I know what horizontal is ;) I just want to make sure that's what you mean so I don't screw it up!

Yep, the strips should go left to right. If it helps, you can look at the image I put up on the post. If you look at the image with the yellow on top and orange on the bottom the wonky color section separating them shows how the strips go left to right.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure what orientation the 6.5 x 12 was supposed to be for the horizontal stripes. whew. I'm excited!

I think there's plenty of fabric here for this block. How fun! Love the fabrics too.

Are the blocks to be 6.5" x 12" or 7" x 12"? The reason I ask is the note in the envelope and the post on the site differ.

They should be 6.5"x12". I changed my mind (several times) after the packages went out. Sorry the directions were confusing.
